The composite or agglomerated corks style offers good short-term wine storage. Its design does limit the wine's maturation potential compared to natural corks but performs well for early-drinking wines. Newly purchased corks in an unopened pack do not require sterilisation. The silicone coating on the cork reduces the drag when it slides through the corker. For this reason, avoid contact with hot water and store corks in a cool, dry area with the pack well-sealed.
Note: Open-packed corks may not perform as per suppliers' recommendations. Hence they are used at the user's risk. Wetting or dipping corks should be avoided however this approach is only used to assist glide through manual type corkers.
